Capitalism Lab S05E05: City of Production

City of Production

A very long episode indeed. Well, a lot happened! I have made Warsaw the City of Production. The entire side of the map is filled with two factories of each product and a warehouse selling two products. I even have warehouses for crops because they seem to be running out quickly and warehouses are a good way to ensure I don’t run out of them.

City of Production probably suits the name of this episode as a lot has happened:

  • Invested into a Media firm in each city.
  • Started producing every product needed to achieve goals
  • Advertised for every product range
  • Began retailing every product
  • Hired a CEO to win market share even if need be to sell below cost
  • Hired a CMO
  • Trained my staff
  • Lost and won back my Snacks Industry dominance

Lessons learned in the creation of the City of Production:

1. Micromanaging becomes a mission

It gets really hard to fight for market share as you build your brand. You end up forcing your competitor to reduce their prices thereby forcing you to sell at less profit. In other words, keeping up with increasing prices as the branding improves is exhausting.

2. Warehouse every raw material

As I like to say, overproduce than underproduce a raw material. Some raw materials such as crops have a timeline that could impact your production. Having a lot of raw material will never be a problem as they don’t have a shell life in the game.

3. Don’t rely on 1 product to build your brand

From what I noticed, it helped to have a variety of products available to sell in the class as it gave my COO the option to advertise a selected product that could reap more benefits.
